Brussels, 28 May 2020 – has sent a letter to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to convey our priorities to the German EU presidency, starting from the 1st of July 2020.

In a letter to Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, urges the German government to maintain the high priority on climate protection during their upcoming presidency of the EU. Germany plays a key role to bring the European agenda forward. From the perspective of the 3.000 green SMEs and front-runners in our membership, keeping a strong green focus in the EU post-corona recovery plan and its support programs is crucial. furthermore asks to push the implementation of the Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP) forward and integrate key elements we are currently missing, including:

  • implementing harmonised Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes with eco-modulation of fees in all waste-intense sectors;
  • promoting the opening of national and regional Circular Acceleration Houses helping SMEs to become greener;
  • rapid agreement on a goal of at least 55% CO2 emission reduction by 2030 and an ambitious floor to the carbon price.
