Ecopreneur.eu calls on European Commission to keep and simplify EU sustainability legislation
Today, Ecopreneur.eu, the European Sustainable Business Federation, has sent an open letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, urging the EU to preserve the ambition of EU sustainability laws while reducing unnecessary administrative burdens through simplification—not deregulation.
As a Federation representing 5,000 SMEs and larger companies committed to sustainability, many of them pioneering circular business models, Ecopreneur.eu highlights the importance of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and the EU Taxonomy in creating a transparent and competitive European economy. These laws provide crucial long-term investment security and help establish a level playing field for sustainable businesses. Many companies have already invested in compliance with the new laws. Moreover, weakening them would undermine competitiveness and private investment, increase legal uncertainty, and harm the EU’s global credibility in sustainable finance and policy leadership.
“We strongly urge the European Commission and the European Parliament to implement necessary simplifications swiftly through delegated and implementing acts, rather than wait for an uncertain and possibly lengthy Omnibus process,” said Arthur ten Wolde, Executive Director of Ecopreneur.eu.
By acting now, the EU can ensure that administrative complexity for businesses is reduced while sustainability policies remain strong.
