
European Sustainable Business advocates full application of the Polluter Pays Principle
The European Sustainable Business Federation – Ecopreneur.eu – welcomes the Polluter Pays Principle fitness check as a basis for recommendations in 2024 on how to better implement the principle. Existing EU regulation is inadequate. All prices should reflect the true costs of external environmental and social impacts. This requires an immediate end to fossil fuel subsidies, further increased carbon pricing, a tax shift from labour to resource use and pollution, harmonised eco-modulated Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for all waste-intensive products, and rapid implementation of Green Public Procurement (GPP).
