Life cycle sustainability assessment methodology developed by ORIENTING project
Brussels, May 2, 2024 – Ecopreneur.eu, the European Sustainable Business Federation, proudly announces the conclusion of the ORIENTING research project, aimed at fostering sustainability in product life cycles.
The project consortium of 17 organisations has developed an operational methodology for Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) that integrates environmental, social, and economic dimensions, while also incorporating circularity and criticality indicators. Ecopreneur.eu played a key role within the project to ensure that the outcomes are accessible and beneficial to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) via an “entry level”.
ORIENTING, a three-and-a-half-year endeavour funded by the EU, has tested the methodology across various sectors. It was presented during a concluding conference in Brussels on April 18, together with a toolbox consisting of a handbook, entry level support package, integration tool and training materials. The results aims to empower companies, organisations, and researchers to apply LCSA effectively, particularly among SMEs.
Ecopreneur.eu emphasises the importance of such initiatives in driving the European Green Deal’s objectives forward. LSCA can not only support governments with implementing new policies but also help SMEs and large companies with ecodesign of products, green claims, sustainable procurement, and sustainability reporting.
