Ecopreneur.eu hands position paper to Commissioner Roswall during high-level dialogue
Brussels, July 2 – At the high-level “Clean Industrial Dialogue on Circularity” in Brussels, our Executive Director Arthur ten Wolde joined Commissioner Jessika Roswall, Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera, and Executive Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné and presented our position paper, “An EU Circular Economy Act to drive competitiveness and investment in circular business.”
The meeting gathered 25 representatives from business and civil society, including Ecopreneur.eu – The European Sustainable Business Federation. Overall, the alignment of their recommendations was remarkable. Ecopreneur.eu stressed the need for for the Circular Economy Act to create a level playing field with well-functioning markets for circular business models across the value cycle by mandatory, harmonised Green Public Procurement and economic incentives based on True Pricing. Fossil-fuels subsidies should be ended and replaced by measures via taxation (e.g. reduce tax on repairs, green the VAT) and levies (e.g. improved Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and extension of the CBAM). In addition, it is important to improve the transparency via the Digital Product Passport and the Green Claims Directive, solve urgent issues concerning mechanical recycling and imports, and support and assist the 25 million SMEs with the switch to circular models.
