Priorities of the Hungarian Presidency

Under the slogan “Make Europe Great Again”, Hungary states seven priorities for its presidency programme: (1) a new “competitiveness deal”, (2) strengthening European defence policy, (3) a consistent and performance-oriented enlargement policy, (4) curbing illegal migration, (5) shaping the future of cohesion policy, (6) a farmer-oriented agricultural policy and (7) overcoming demographic challenges.

Water resilience, biodiversity, the fight against pollution and the circular economy are particularly emphasized. Notable are the correlation between European Green Deal objectives and competitiveness, the commitment to support SMEs with implementation and cutting down on administrative burden.

In a letter to Hungarian President Viktor Orbàn, Ecopreneur.eu stresses the fact that a competitive industry requires a level playing field with robust social, ecological and commercial standards – hence an industrial policy that benefits business, people, and the environment.
