New White Paper on Extended Producer Responsibility published
Brussels – The Economic Incentive Leadership Group within the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP), which includes Ecopreneur.eu, has published a white paper on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) called “EPR schemes. Current state and recommendations for improvement”. It contains a series of asks to the EU, including:
➡️ Harmonise the EPR rules
➡️ Ensure the eco-modulated fee reflects the full environmental and social costs
➡️ Improve the governance of EPR schemes
➡️ Combine the potential of EPR with other economic policies
EPR schemes are an important tool for circularity advancement. However, there is still considerable room for improvement in their form as well as scale. The white paper briefly summarises the current state by defining and describing EPR schemes, regulations behind them and the benefits they result in.
The suggestions in the report could improve current EPR schemes and prepare the ground for their further expansion. This will be a small but necessary step towards circular transition our economy, society and planet desperately needs. We encourage you to read the white paper and participate in discussion on EPR enhancement!
