Position Paper: Strengthening the SUPD as a Driver of Circularity

In the transition towards a toxic-free, competitive, low carbon circular economy, an ambitious Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) is key. Not only it will prevent littering, it will also mandate the packaging industry to take responsibility for the end-of-life of their products, spurring innovation, eco-design, reuse and high-quality recycling.

Ecopreneur.eu therefore welcomes the European Commission’s initiative to evaluate the impact of the SUPD and the opportunity to contribute an industry view on its effectiveness, implementation and future development. Its assessment offers the opportunity to reinforce regulatory clarity, ensure consistent enforcement and safeguard a competitive internal market.
