New EU Project on life cycle assessment started
Ecopreneur.eu has kicked-off with a three-year EU-Horizon 2020 funded project called “ORIENTING” to develop a robust and operational methodology for the life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA) of products and services. The “S” from “Sustainability” indicates that this LCA method will consider environmental, social and economic impacts in an integrated way. It should also assess goods produced under linear as well as circular business models, allowing practitioners to understand and manage possible trade-offs.
The consortium, led by the Spanish Tecnalia, consists of 16 partners from across the EU including the Fraunhofer Institute, universities and Pré Sustainability, a company partner of our Dutch member MVO Nederland. The objectives include guidance and training materials, data and software specifications and a hands-on LCSA software tool. The consortium will work in close cooperation with relevant stakeholders. The LCSA methodology and its enabling tools will be demonstrated in industrial case studies. The project outcomes will enable informed business decisions and contribute to the development of a level playing field for products based on robust sustainability information. An important goal for Ecopreneur.eu will be to ensure that the outcomes will be user-friendly, affordable and relevant for SMEs.
Stay tuned for more news about “ORIENTING” over the next months!
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 958231
